Does this Cape make my butt look big?

It’s a bird… it’s a plane! No it’s…???????

I was thinking about super heroes. Why you ask? Could it be that nearly every movie released this summer was based on a comic hero?  We seem to be fascinated by their fantastic capabilities and then it occurred to me. I already have a superpower. I don’t need any special cape or and I was born on this planet. to be triggered. I haven’t been exposed to dangerous chemicals nor has my DNA been manipulated. In fact, my super power was always available to me and to anyone who else who wants to develop it.  Clark Kent did it and so can you and Kryptonite will not weaken you.

Anxiety Attacks!

If you have ever had a panic or anxiety attack you know the overwhelming fear that comes with it.

Your breath becomes shallow; heart is pounding, sweating, paralyzing fear, thoughts coming faster than can be processed, fear… of death.

What’s happening to me, It’s a heart attack…I’m going to die, I can’t move…sweating, tunnel vision, no sound…too much sound...Why won’t it stop…What is wrong with me?

This real experience can be minimized by those who do not understand. For the sufferers it is difficult to explain and to stop once begun. It becomes an unending circle. Fear of having anxiety creates more anxiety and more anxiety leads to panic and more panic leads to more anxiety and OMG…is it happening again? What am I going to do…I can’t take this feeling…it’s too much…when will it stop…am I crazy?…I’m confused…

The secret of life…do these 3 things…The 5-3-1 Challenge.

Without making promises I can’t keep or asking you to implement practices impossible to accomplish. I can whole heartedly, recommend these 3  items as direct steps to creating a happy life. But I can only do so much.  I’ll tell you the secrets but the rest is up to you.  And oh… don’t expect a miracle. Any change takes time to take root and blossom.

Here’s what the research has found. You’ll need to remember the numbers of 5-3-1.

Top 3 Tools for Stress Relief … free and easy to implement! (I Promise)

Here’s my Top 3 easy to implement and proven treatments for Stress Relief. All are easy to access and free!!!

1. SLEEP

The# 1 cure for stress is sleep. It’s nature’s way of restoring energy to get you through another day. But here’s the cruelest trick of nature. Stress interferes with sleep!  So how are you supposed to get to sleep to recover from stress when stress is keeping you awake? AUGH!!!

Start with good sleep hygiene.

·         Establish rituals. Go to bed around the same time nightly.

·         Eat or exercise 3 hours prior to bedtime only

·         Have a light snack of “sleepy” foods before bed ( almonds, cherries, bananas and dairy are all good)

·         No electronics in bed!

·         If needed, try a power nap. Research has shown that a nap can lead to better efficiency, patience and improved health.

·         Be kind to yourself. Patience is needed to establish new habits. It takes time.

2. MEDITATION *PERSONAL FAVORITE*

I know what you are thinking…  “I can’t do this, I can’t stop thinking”.  Meditation is not about “emptying your mind” of thoughts.  This is nearly impossible. Meditation is easy if you are taught correctly. Most of us think about 60,000 thoughts a day and the mind is designed to think. Let’s imagine that you are only trying to achieve gaining a space between your thoughts and learning to let thoughts pass without attaching any story to them. Does this help? Mediation is an ancient practice designed to restore peace and calm to your busy lives.  Begin with breath.

·         Start with taking 3 conscious breaths.

·         Feel the cool air on the inhale and the warmed breath on the exhale.

·         Notice how focus on the breath slows down all your thoughts.

·         Do this 4x a day for one minute. One minute of meditation can begin to change the relationship with your thoughts.

·         Get a Meditation Teacher. I can help with this!

3. SPEND TIME IN NATURE

John Burroughs said “I go to nature to be soothed and healed and to have my senses put in order”. Nature leads us to appreciate the grander sense of the world. Taking a walk has been shown to decrease depression, improve self esteem and decrease physical tension. Nature speaks to our soul; we find nature to be naturally interesting! We pay attention!  !t takes us away from the busyness of our minds as we focus our attention on the world around us. Laboratory studies show that our brain function increases in the areas of love and well-being when we spend time in nature. Nature restores us to sanity.

·         Walk around the block every day, or to the corner and back. Distance isn’t the point. Go outside.

·         Park farther away. Take your time.

·         Each time you go outside take a breath and notice before you must be on your way. Feel the sun, breeze, temperature. Just notice. What are you hearing and seeing? Take your time.

Do these 3 everyday.  Or one!! Just start with one of these.

Simple and effective.

You can do this!

I have faith in you!

Peace,

Robin The Meditation Addict

You say you want a revolution...

Can you even read that line without singing along? (sorry Millennials, look it up on you tube)

I love John Lennon. Really, I do. He was my imaginary boyfriend in the 4th grade. Oh jeez, that's wrong. It was Paul McCartney. I love Paul and John.  Really I do.

I digress. I wanted to talk about meditation! How are these related you ask? It's the revolution thing. I interviewed Chad Foreman (fb/Meditation Masters) for my recent telesummit.  He talked about Meditation being a current revolution. It's a revolution of the mind. We are beginning to find that our over-scheduled, constantly connected, monkey minds need a break. Everyone is doing it and it's more than just a fad. Researchers are publishing more studies everyday that tout the beneficial effects of this ancient practice.  Even meditating a few minutes a a day grows the gray matter in your brain. It normalizes blood pressure, reduces the level of stress hormones, relieves muscle tension, improves sleep, relieves anxiety, decreases depression, and generates optimism and self esteem. Celebrities are doing it, politicians, sports figures, CEO's and kids.  Are you? NO? Why not?

One of these?

I can't stop thinking...It's too difficult..I'm too busy..I'm too stressed...I'm not spiritual...It will compromise my 'edge"...I'm not a pretzel...I'm not shaving my head or buying crystals...it's kinda weird...

All of these excuses are just that, excuses and frankly not true. Why are you listening to that overworked busy brain that often times gives you bad advice? With all the crap that's going on in there clearly you can't trust it to be on point all the time.

I'm inviting you to join the Mediation Revolution.  No uniforms, secret passwords or danger. I'm offering peace, calm, spaciousness, relaxation, joy, compassion, purpose and love. But most of all quiet and an opportunity to connect with the one beneath your thoughts in the silent space of your soul.

You say you want a revolution...we all want to change the world. Like Ghandi said  "Be the change you wish to see in the world".

Now there's a revolution.
